So, What Did You Have For Lunch Today?

October 17, 2011 By Jeff 92 Comments

I planned to write today’s update on Sunday, because I have some stuff that needs to get done before I leave for work this afternoon.  But, as so often happens, my plans went circling down the ol’ poop catcher.  Therefore… this one is going to be abbreviated.  Sorry, but real life has a way of ruining things sometimes.  Stupid real life.

One thing I hadn’t planned to do, was have lunch at Moe’s.  But they just sent me a text message saying I can get any burrito, unlimited chips and salsa, and a regular drink for $5.  Today until 3.  So, I’m going to take them up on their little offer, on my way out of town.

In case you’re keeping an Excel spreadsheet or something, I will be purchasing the Joey Bag o’ Donuts burrito.  However, I just call it the “Joey,” so as to slightly lessen the douchiness quotient.  It will contain chicken, rice, pico, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, cilantro, and a light dusting of raw onions.  Oh, it’s one tasty-ass lunch.

They also have really good sweet tea, inside the dispenser marked SOUTHERN.  I always get my iced tea from SOUTHERN, never from NORTHERN.  Because NORTHERN tastes like dish water.

I also need to visit the post office, buy some gas (grrr..), and go to the credit union.

If you can believe it, a publishing company paid me $300 to reprint this photo in a text book.  Hey, who am I to question it?  The check arrived on Saturday, from a publishing house we’re all familiar with.  Unfortunately… it’s the only money I’ve ever collected from a New York publisher.  Kinda ironic, huh?  Like rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you’ve already paid.

In any case, what did you have for lunch today?  I’m also maintaining a spreadsheet, and will need all of you to report in on your midday meal.  Please use the comments link below.

And I’m gonna go run my errands now, and drive forty miles to work.

I’ll be back tomorrow, with a real update.

See ya then.

Now playing in the bunker

I just ate a Lean Cuisine “Five Cheese Rigatoni” purchased from Super Target and carried from home to work in my bag this morning (not sure how detailed your spreadsheet is).

But now after seeing your picture of that pitiful-looking whopper, I realize I made a huge mistake. BK for dinner!

A sandwich on a crusty whole wheat roll with mayo, garden grown tomatoes, zatar seasoning, iceberg lettuce, dill pickles, cheddar cheese and swiss cheese. I also had four Vienna Fingers cookies from a package that has Elves on the front. I made the sandwich this morning and brought it to work in aluminum foil. The pickles kind of leaked out some juice and made one side of the bread a little soggy. It wasn’t bad. It was better than paying 6.00 for a stale sandwich from the commissary.

As almost always, a big-ass salad. Today’s consisted of:
    – Romaine lettuce.
    – Spinach.
    – Red bell pepper.
    – Sliced cherry tomatoes.
    – Canned black-eyed peas.
    – Sweet onion (Vidalia knock-off).
    – Newman’s Light Balsamic dressing.

I am sated. At least for a couple of hours, when I’ll eat my second apple of the day. (No, I don’t eat a whole peck, as Jeff’s old office-mate used to. Only one or two.)

Despite having a similar lunch every weekday for about the past five years, I remain forever at least 30 pounds overweight. I blame it on too much booze in the evening.

Some of you guys sound like you have some pretty good lunches.

Todays’ lunch was a hunk of roast pork loin with dijon mustard and an Ida Red apple. (I’m experimenting with apples to see what I prefer; so far it remains Granny Smith, with Jonnathans coming in second.) It was washed down with about 300ml (10oz) of Big K diet cola.

I do enjoy the Burritos at Moes although they seem to have largely folded here in the mitten state. I will forever maintain however that lettuce has no place whatsoever in a burrito.

I’ve been having these new meal replacement shakes (not slimfast) for breakfast and lunch for about a week now. However, the WHORE GODDAMN BITCH in accounting ordered some stuffed pizza and told me to help myself. So I’m thinking about it. Real hard.

I’m losing weight. I’m already close to giving up, I’m not THAT fat. I saw a show late last night, “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” where people get themselves in jam and nearly die. Lost at sea and shit like that. This one guy got lost in the Australian desert and wandered around for 6 days, I think. When they found him he’d lost about 50 pounds. I was thinking about putting some gas in my car, pointing it towards a desert and driving until I run out of gas. Then I’ll hope to get found before I die, but not before I lose 50 pounds.

Is that a local sauce? I use a lot of Dave’s Insanity Sauce. Put it on pizza, in spaghetti, in chili and sometime spread it on sandwiches. The sauces that no one can stand to be around you when you eat, due to their watering eyes, are the best. Surprised I have intestines left at all.

Damn dude, I use Dave’s in chili and that’s it. That stuff is toxic. I can put a couple drops of it in a big ol kettle of chili and it gives it a nice heat that I like. There’s a reason the label says to stay away from it if you have a heart condition. It also says something about being used to strip wax off of floors. I still have the same bottle I bought about 6 years ago.

She enjoyed it. For some reason though today I wasn’t too into it so I had a few pieces then wished I was eating lasagna or something. Weird, I know.

Yesterday was leftover spaghetti and meat sauce (with ground beef, green peppers, celery, green onions, carrots and italian seasoning) covered in shredded old/sharp cheddar.

Today was leftover (Canadian) Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.

Both lunches were delicious. There is a co-workers retirement luncheon on Thursday at a fancy Italian restaurant and Friday is a vacation day so I should be drinking by noon, it is a good week for lunches!
