The schools here closed before noon today, because of (get this)… a steady rain. Our boys came in, immediately started calling their friends, and are now off celebrating their unexpected good fortune. They can’t believe it, and neither can I. It’s rain! WTF? Is this place turning in to California?
I’m fully expecting the school district to provide precipitation counselors tomorrow, to help students cope. I mean, it can be a traumatic thing to watch pavement darken with moisture, and the woosh woosh woosh of windshield wipers is a terrifying sound that sometimes haunts youngsters well into adulthood.
Yeah, and that’s probably what some smartass in Johnstown blogged in May of 1889… They had blogs back then, didn’t they? Of course they did.
Since LOST is no more, we have no weekly TV shows to follow. Friday Night Lights is the only other hour-long program we watch, and it’s on during bizarre months, so who the hell knows when it’ll show up again?
Therefore, we instructed the DVR to start recording a few semi-promising new shows, with the hope that one or two might click. And it’s not starting out too well…
We watched the full lineup of our chosen shows last week, and none of them blew me away. We’re prepared to give them one or two more weeks each, but I can already feel myself developing a bad attitude. If something doesn’t start clicking soon, I’m going back to Buffy the Vampire Slayer through Netflix streaming. Fukkit.
The best, by far, was Boardwalk Empire, on HBO. But it was fairly slow-moving, and not exactly crackling with electricity. I’ve heard that it improves, though. And the first episode itself was far from bad, just not as good as I’d hoped.
I’ll probably be sticking with it for the season, because of all the talent involved. I’m prepared to give them a little more leeway, because of their pedigree.
I’ve read lots of praise for the remake of Hawaii Five-O, but I didn’t like it much. I might be jumping-ship on that turd after Week Two. We’ll see how it goes. The first episode was full of predictable action, but I didn’t care about any of the characters. Maybe it’ll improve? They have one more week to show me something. I’m a very busy man.
Detroit 1-8-7 is a cop show featuring “Christopher” from the Sopranos. The first one wasn’t bad, but also not very good. I think they’re trying hard to be Homicide, but they still have a long way to go. I might give it three weeks, instead of two, because the main character is kinda interesting.
We also watched some bizarre-ass sitcom, called Outsourced. There were a few clever lines, but not nearly enough of ’em. The setting is a call center in India, being run by an American, and it’s very strange. I like strange, so I’m willing to offer this one a two or three week probation. But comedies should also be funny, right? I have a bad feeling.
I kinda wish we’d started watching The Event, but didn’t. Is it any good? There’s some hype surrounding it, at least. Maybe I’ll get caught-up online, and jump in? Is it worth the effort?
What new shows have you started watching this fall? Are any of them worth a damn? Tell us about it in the comments, won’t you?
In fact, what returning shows do you watch? I’m not talking about reruns or DVDs, but weekly shows in current production. We don’t have anything… nothing. And dammit, we need a couple shows.
I’ll be back on Sunday, or Monday, or Saturday… Who knows? Everything feels slightly askew around here.
Have a great day, my friends.
My wife and oldest daughter are NCIS fans. They absolutelt drool over Gibbs, yet when I make a remark about how hot Ziva is, I am instantly branded a “perv”. Go figure,
Nothing really does it for me on TV anymore. Family Guy is still great, and Breaking Bad is still good, but perhaps about to jump the shark this year….I mean, how much longer can Vince Gilligan and crew kep up the genius?
A rain day in Scranton? Seriously, for the uninitiated, East Coast rain is like something straight out of the Bible. I’m from Seattle originally, and the only times I have ever, EVER pulled off the Interstate have been twice in Pennsylvania during rainstorms.
…and here in Nome, Alaska, my kids have to go outside for recess every day…unless the temperature (ambient or wind chill) gets down to 20 below zero farenheit!
So now I know where all those retarted job interview questions come from. I was just told that the guy we were going to interview next Thursday will be here at 1:00. I need to come up with 10 questions right now!! So I’m thinking I just may ask this guy what he would do if I gave him an elephant….
NCIS is one show I really enjoy but only get to see the first couple of episodes because euchre league is on Tuesday nights and starts on the 12th. Bummer.
Hott Fuzz-Did that cow die a horrible enough death to be considered palatable?
“The Middle” and “Dexter” are the only two shows I watch on a regular basis now. ESPN takes up the rest of viewing time, especially Arounf the Horn and PTI.
They close schools here when a hurricane gets within 400 miles of us. Wasted sunny day usually.
Up for a “promotion” that makes 4000 dollars less per year. Forced to interview for it. Started spitting out facts and figurs like I was Rain Man, based on how much I would have less to live on and what bills I couldn’t pay. Don’t think I’ll get the “promotion”.
“Outsourced” is so goddamed hilarious. That was sarcasm, smell it. Isit really funny that American jobs go to India and it’s so fucking funny that they have to make a comedy about it?

Enjoy your sunny d and rum y’all – (she did). Hey is this cruel? if it is I’ll stop but it was also on a local radio station I listen to and they were playing both this one and Sweet Home Alabama for all it was worth. I don’t know…this seems just real borderline.
WB – while the death may have been horrific, it does appear to be bloodless…however, I imagine banging around in the girders of a bridge would do a nice job of tenderizing. So yes, spark up the bbq and let’s us have some meat!
Hot,
Yes it probably is cruel . After you posted the first video of her , I HAD to go to youtube and look her up and watch EVERY video she posted . It took me a couple hours ! But once I start something…
anyway I even joined her channel , I don’t post any mean comments , I haven’t encouraged her yet ( she has people that do both) she just fascinates me .

I only watched a bit. I wouldn’t trade places with her, but at least she’s happy!
AWG – I was promoted a short while back and was told I would lose the privilege of working from home and the reimbursements that go with it. It would have cost me big time. They listened to reason and let me keep it. But when it came to more money, I’m already $10k+ more than my former boss (who;s position I now have) so not a whole lot salary wise after taxes.
The point? I have no point. I was thrown off by thoughts of the cow on the bbq.
Dave, he’s a no here, stuggats….
Try asking Baily Quarters or Jennifer Marlowe?
Ask him if he had to be one (assuming he’s not gay or bi) whether he would be a top or a bottom.
If he is gay, ask him for suggestions on your wardrobe, design and cooking. (I myself need help with the first two)
Give him a rubic’s cube and tell him – GO!
Tell him to write a story totally unrelated to anything during the interview, while you’re interviewing,
“Every Friday after work we head down to the back parking lot and do a circle jerk, ya in?” watch for response.
So the elephant plus these 6 leaves…um….I suck at math…. um ….where’s that calculator.?….a few more to go….for Monday.
I suck at time and ready for comprehension too…
well maybe you have this open on your desk while you’re interviewing him NOW?
Does he have Charlie Manson eyes or something going on… DON’T STARE!!!
Does he smell? Like what?
Fart and see if he notices.
Does he look like a bitch? DOES HE LOOK …..LIKE…..A BITCH?
Hire him, what the hell, if nothing else you can enjoy crushing someones dreams if it doesn’t work out.
ROFL – Loving these!!!
It turned out the guy greatly exaggerated his resume and about halfway through just kinda gave up and replied, “I don’t know” to the rest of the questions. What a waste of time.
I have 7 more interviews this week, I think I’ll use your questions. Can you film a job interview? Wouldn’t that be kinda like cash cab or something?
ready = reading
Criminal Minds, Law and Order SVU, House, Bones, The Vampire Diaries, Hell’s Kitchen, and The Whole Truth. That
s it as far as networks go. I used to watch Fringe, but it got too far out.
MIA
Oh, yeah, I forgot about House
MII
Further Evidence: There needs to be a Turd Twister of the Smokin’ Fish logo.
Since when do you take a pay cut as part of a promotion. Sumpins wrong somewhere.
I whole heartily endorse Modern Family, if you enjoy laughing out loud. The Middle is a nice warm up to it as well. And of course The Office, a standard. 30 Rock is funny at times, a bit over the top at other times.
Watched Hawaii 5-0 but kept remembering the original and was constantly comparing. It had no chance.
I heard a story today that made my day…a kid I used to go to school with was arrested for armed robbery for trying to rob a bank in Chebanse, IL. He went to jail obviously. The night he went to jail he used his phone call to call his girlfriend and ask him to marry him. She said yes. The next day his new fiance posted on her facebook that she needed help accumulating the bail money and several people ‘liked’ the status…liked it out of hilarity, not because they were wanting to help. Truly made my day. This is also the same kid who snuck up to the passenger window while I was waiting for my friend one day at a gas station, stuck his head in the window and says, “Hey….do you wanna snort some lines with me?”. I replied…’No.” and slowly rolled the window up as he skuttled away in his ripped up sweats, flip flops, and cocaine ringed nostrils.
Mugshot?
I wish…I found some articles online about it but no pic:(…you can see his pic on his facebook though…http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1080206099&ref=ts
It’s always sunny in philadelphia and the league.
I watched this new show last night I was wondering if anyone else had seen it. It’s called Mash, I think it’s about viet nam or something. There was a guy called Radar Pierce and Hawkeye Klinger who is apparently some species of bird.
Overall it wasn’t bad and the guy from Dragnet looks good for his age.
Anyone seen it?
Great show! Best line: ‘I thought we fixed your wagon at Yorktown.’ Almost as good as that funny Nazi show.
Did anyone else see “No Ordinary Family”? I thought it was pretty good! Just one of those Sci-fi family fun shows you can watch without dedicating too much brain power. Kinda reminders me of Heroes but, ya know, with actually like-able characters and less suck-ass-ish-ness.
Now I will list other shows that I don’t watch but want to mention them to sound cool and with-it:
Modern Family
Glee
Boardwalk Empire
Modern Family is actually realllllly funny.
No ordinary family is showing right now, (Friday night), and I’m watching it. I’ll let you know what I think.
Just finished No Ordinary Family. I think it has possibilities. It started out kind of silly at first, but then, a really negative element was introduced, which will thicken the plot. It may be worth watching.
Just got a GFY text message from Orbitz.
Told me that my flight at 7AM tomorrow to Cleveland was cancelled.
Fortunately Orbitz was able to work with me and now my flight is at noon.
At least I wasn’t told while at the airport. Someone might have died.
Cleveland is closed tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain.

Lone Star is cool – makes you want to have multiple personalities – don’t know where the guy finds the time though
Comedy Central – Bill Burr – NOW!!!
funniest stand-up i have seen in a long time. if he is on again you have to watch. CYLL.
Caprica on SyFy – it is the second part of a season that began last season and ended in March. I like it although there are some criticisms about the pace and direction of the series. It is a Battlestar Galactica Prequel.
All returning shows…I don’t have time for new ones.
Cougar Town
Modern Family
Lie to Me
House
CSI
CSI: NY
Glee
Weeds
