On Tuesday I received the electronic versions of the book from the formatter, and yesterday it occurred to me that I could probably put it on my Kindle now. So, I did, and when it popped up on the screen — looking as slick and professional as any of the books I’ve purchased from major publishers — I might have let loose a womanly squeal.
The coolest part, I think, is seeing the title (and author) listed among the other books I’ve downloaded to the device. None are any more or less prominent than the others, they’re all equal in the eyes of the Kindle. And that’s an amazing thing, an opportunity that didn’t exist five years ago.
I was hoping to have the book available for purchase during the first week of April, but I think Amazon has to approve it first. Then they’ll send me a “proof copy” which I’ll need to check out. And I can’t see all that happening in one week.
Any opinions on me making the Kindle and Nook versions available a week or two before the physical book? I know it’s my decision, but you guys are a part of this and I value your opinions. How important is it to release every version at the same time? That was my original plan, but I’m kinda hooked on that “first week of April” thing. It’s been my target date from the beginning.
Here’s what I’m thinking… On April 1 (April Fool’s Day — perfect!) I’ll make the novel available for download at the Kindle Store, NookBooks, and maybe Apple’s iBooks. On that same day, I’ll start taking pre-orders, one week only, for signed copies of the physical book. The price will be roughly the same as the Amazon price, with shipping and handling. So, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 bucks.
Let me know what you think. And, unless I change my mind for some reason, I’m going to show you folks the cover tomorrow. I love it, and look forward to your feedback.
And I’m sorry to keep talking about the book, but it’s pretty much the only thing on my mind at the moment.
In case you were wondering, the site problems were fixed by my web host yesterday afternoon. I don’t know what happened, and don’t really care. It’s no longer a problem, and that’s all that matters to me. For a couple of days I couldn’t upload important photos, like the one on today’s webcam. And the world was a sadder place. Whew!
And finally, I downloaded a guilty pleasure album this morning, and am enjoying the hell out of it. This one, to be exact. And I’d like to turn that into the Question of the Day.
In the comments section, please tell us about your guilty pleasures. It doesn’t necessarily need to be music. It can be movies, TV shows, food, a Fred Flintstone buttplug… whatever floats your boat. Please tell us all about it.
And I’m gonna call it a day, my friends. Thanks for sticking with me through this current book obsession. I’ll get it under control. Probably.
I’ll be back tomorrow.
See ya then!
And WB, I like Tom Clancy but Jesus H Bench!
When my grandma died approx 54 weeks ago there were at least 4 copies of debt of honor in her house.
Good times.
Word of the day: Arduino.
I can’t really explain it myself.
I want to buy a first edition/first printing of “Of Mice and Men” but it’s just too pricey for something I’d be afraid to read.
I’ll buy a signed, printed copy thanks. I once sold a (unsigned!) first edition for $11,000 – goodness knows what a first edition Kay might one day be worth. I can’t see the Kindle/Nook/iPad/Flappy Paddle eReader version appreciating much, plus I’m not even sure where my Kindle is these days.
Great news on the book! I vote for the e- and regular versions being released at the same time. Reason being that I wouldn’t be able to read the site, for fear of spoilers. And that would make me sad. I will most definitely want a signed copy.
Guilty pleasures? It’s a long list, so I’ll try to keep to the highlights.
– I get breakfast at the McDonald’s drive-thru every time I go directly from home to a job site.
– If I’m making breakfast at home, which means it’s the weekend, I’ll sometimes put gravy on my scrambled eggs.
– Utz Dark Russet potato chips.
– Smoking, of course
– Cheddarwurst
– Commenting before I read the other comments
.
Same day, not same day. I’ll buy both. Maybe even 2 hard copies because I’m hard on books (heh) and the signed one would get destroyed.
Well, I just got a kindle, so I won’t resist buying it for that. And whenever the signed copies go out, I’m in for that too, ’cause I gotta have the physical book, especially signed. I can’t believe it’s finally coming out!
My guilty pleasure is lesbians. I love hitting on a lesbian couple, one will always think I’m awesome, the other will want to shove a softball bat up my shit chute.
I definitely vote for the April 1st e-version release.
And NO FREEBIES BITCHES. Gas, grass or ass, nobody rides for free!!
Jeff, when I buy the e-version, will you autograph my Nook? 🙂
So….same price for both versions? I love picking up books on the kindle store because they are cheaper than printed versions (most of the time). Regardless, I will buy both, I will read the kindle version, and treasure the signed printed version. Thanks Jeff, I can’t wait to finally read this book!
The e-book is going to be priced significantly lower than the trade paperback.
Come on release it already!! I’ll buy it on Kindle as soon as you release. For me that’s good I’ve only downloaded about 80 “FREE” kindle books so far.
I can’t wait to say I graduated with a published author (and somebody that can read, haha!)
Very proud of you!
I will buy the iBook version first, because I am all about instant gratification. But I must, simply must have a copy signed by Jeff.
Blood of the wolf! Blood of the wolf!
Please release the Kindle version on the 1st. My son is getting married on the 2nd and I need something to cheer me up. PLEASE!!! And I’ll definitely buy the physical autographed book also. Can’t wait.
OK, the cover of the book is set to post at 9 am on Friday. Perogie Belt time… I’m looking forward to your feedback.
Sweet, right after Fraggle Rock is over.
$20 for a book? Well, just let me say that THIS will be only the second time that I have payed full price for a book.
…Guilty pleasures. Uhhhh, last night at work I was on youtube on my personal computer alternating between Tesla and the Go gos videos. (and I really, really loved it! Is this the onset of insanity?)
Re: the book. Guys, I’m not a Kindle kinda guy, so for all you out there who are, PLEASE don’t post any spoilers til I get the physical copy!!!! Thanx.

Yeah, I like that movie too. It makes me kinda wet.

still not in bed
No harm in e-version first. Ian and knucklehead then can get it on short wave and they won’t have to wait for the mail boat. I’ll do the signed book thankyouverymuch.
Arriving a little late at this party. Guilty pleasure of mine–Lauren by Ralph Lauren Leather Tote. I love the way it feels but ooooh the way it smells. I can smell it in the morning when I walk into the room its in. Sweet, sweet leather. Mmmmm. Sorry PETA people. I got no business paying nigh most 250 dollars for a purse.
Guilty pleasures:
Any hot sauce made with ghost peppers. I enjoy the challenge and the cleansing aftermath.
Leonard Cohen- you straight out feel that shit he’s singing(?) about
Julianne Moore-even though she’s my age, have fantasized about her ever since she appeared in “Short Cuts”
Everybody Loves Raymond- Peter Boyle was so fucking funny
Ice, snow and zero degree temps- You would have to live here in Hell to understand that
I’m excited for you Jeff. It’s good to set goals then achieve them.
AWG…
I love Leonard Cohen’s voice and have been listening to him and enjoying that voice, singing those wonderful songs, for 45 years. I certainly don’t feel any guilt about it though.
He is a national treasure (of both Canada and the USA) and is still going pretty strong. Glad you mentioned him.
jtb
Seems that nobody I know has either A) Heard of him or B) Like that voice.
The guy’s still going strong too. And…..Rebecca De Mornay, when he was in his 60s!! He da man!
Hallelujah and Bird on a Wire are his alone to me no matter who else covers.
And Anthem, Chelsea Hotel #2, Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye, Tower of Song…the list of terrific signature songs is very long.
jtb
OK…over 150 entries and NO ONE has mentioned “Velveeta” as a guilty pleasure. Frankly, I am shocked and a little disappointed in all of us!
I’ll take the ebook and a hard copy. I have no guilty pleasures that aren’t edible….
Which Friday??
