Should I Stay or Should I Go?
I think I'm reaching the end of the line at my job. I just get no
satisfaction from it anymore. I mean, the pay has always sucked, but at
least I was doing some good things. When I was hired three years ago, I
assumed that I would have been promoted or given a substantial raise by
now. I did get a raise, about $5K, but it doesn't quite cover my
financial needs considering how little my starting pay was.
I suspect that part of the problem is that I'm too good at what I do,
thus making me indispensable in my office and incapable of getting moved
out. I've three times been passed over for a position I was very
interested in because of this. Twice, for less qualified people.
So, this realization has started to really sink in and has directly
affected my work ethic. I came to work a few days last week and did the
bare minimum required of me. I finally felt like a real employee of the
State. Unfortunately, I have a lot of energy to burn and sitting at a
desk all day just kills me.
Sometimes I daydream of being back in the fast-food business. Well, not
really, but I do need a change of scenery. This place just doesn't cut
it anymore.
Can't Live Without Me?
You know what I did yesterday? I created a blog dedicated to me and my
favorite pastime, poker. You can check it out here:
http://pokerchamp.blogspot.com/.
To entice you to see it, there's photo there of me at some bar, looking
like an ass clown. Anyway, I've already posted a few columns and stuff
so check it out and leave a comment. You can also read about my first
online tournament experience in the First Bad Beat post. It's something
I will probably forget someday with the proper amount of counseling.
I'll be updating the site regularly so bookmark it.
I had so much fun learning how to add links and photos to it, I may
create another one about my daily adventures here in the Classic City
with my good buddy, the American Heartthrob. The man is a chick magnet
and has a wink that melts hearts. I usually just stand around and drink.
I still have every intention of keeping my weekly column here until I
get picked up by a network, or Jeff disappears me like Randi and Buck.
You never know, I might be on "vacation" before I know it.
EBay It!
Jeff! Sell me the Miller High Life lamp! Please! I'll go ahead and bid
$20
for it on EBay. I have to admit that I'm pretty interested in what kind
of stuff you'll have for sell. At one point to make some extra cash, I
would search the flea markets for rare movies or 8-tracks, test them,
and sell them on EBay. I sold the movie Cloak & Dagger, with Dabney
Coleman, for $20 online a few days after I bought it at the flea market
for 50 cents. Yes, I used to have a working 8-track player. That's how
old my car is. I even had the Boston 8-track with More Than a Feeling.
On more than one occasion, I had that song blasting out of my car while
I pumped my fists in the air.
Maybe I Have a Problem...
I need to lay off the alcohol for a few days. Being the socialite (or
drunken loser) I am, I've had some adult beverages for four straight
days now. This morning I'm feeling pretty brutal because of it. Time to
reunite with my long lost friend water.
Preseason Football
Last night, the Packers got bitch slapped by the Seahawks. The win in no
way makes up for last season's playoff loss, but it was good to see the
Packers lose. Anytime Brett Favre loses, I'm happy. I hate Brett Favre.
The Broncos lost again, to the Bills of all teams. I'm starting to get a
worried that our offense has gone right into the crapper. Two weeks ago
I was planning to make Jake Plummer my number two fantasy quarterback,
now he can't hit a wide open receiver. This Clinton Portis trade better
not turn into the Babe Ruth trade. And if so, at least I got to see
Denver take out the Packers in the Super Bowl a few years back. Brett
Favre sucks.
Ok, that's about all I have for this week. Sorry, I spent too much time
building my blog, drinking, playing poker, and irritating my girlfriend.
I'll
have something more substantial next week. Maybe I'll play some Madden
2005 and complain about how hard it is like everyone else. That'll be
fun. As always, you can reach me at jacsv76@hotmail.com
or leave nasty comments on my blog: http://pokerchamp.blogspot.com/.
