My Weekend Fluid Lineup
Last weekend was hotter and more humid than the devil’s butt-crack, and a week later it feels like October outside. I love it. Not even Sunshine herself could be in a bad mood under such circumstances. Heck, I bet even David Lynch’s dog would be all relaxed and chilled today.
To celebrate the suddenly-crisp temperatures, I believe I’ll invest in a six-pack of Samuel Adams Octoberfest, to kick-off the evening’s festivities.
So, this will be the fluid lineup for today: Eight O’clock Bean Coffee, brewed extra-strong (currently being enjoyed), ice water (it tastes like nothing, yet it’s so damn good!), the Octoberfest (Samuel Adams is my favorite founding father), and a few standard vessels of the Pottsville golden elixir, as needed.
Tomorrow will be exactly the same, without the beer. For some reason they frown on employees drinking adult beverages at my job, the tight-asses. So, it’ll be a little extra water, and maybe a Mountain Dew Severe for a midnight pick-me-up.
What’s your weekend fluid lineup? Do you make adjustments, based on weather? What about mood? It’s very important we know these things. Use the comments link below.
And this concludes a rather ridiculous weekend quickie.

Weekend update!!!
Yay!
I like Coca~Cola.
I buy the Mexican “brewed” Coke in 12 ounce bottles from a 7-11 in Forked River.
The Mexican Coke is made with cane sugar and it seems to have more of a “bite” than the domestic Coke.
Coke over ice is nice.
woot 3
Yarrrr…… Coffee makes for my primary weekend liquid intake. Other beverages are completely mood related.
Holy frijoles ! A Friday update AND a Saturday update … Mr. Kay, I’d take off my hat to you – if I were the hat wearing type.
HOLY CHIT!! top ten and I am sitting at the airport waiting to fly to Philly!
I am boring, I just drink water; perhaps I will have a white wine later. I am visiting my dry famliy members so this trip is going to be a bit boring.
CHEERS!
This morning started off with coffee and we’ve switched to fresh squeezed OJ with a splash of vodka for the afternoon – and by splash I mean half.
Green tea (specifically genmaicha) in the morning and afternoon, ice water at various times throughout the day, and chamomile tea with honey at night. It HAD been the summer of Rum & Colas, but that just about ended my esophagus’ career as a food chute. Stupid wussy esophagus. }:o[
Thinking pretty hard about cracking and pouring a Dos Equis Amber into a frosty mug right now. Before that: coffee first off and then some brain-freezy peach thing called Alligator Ice or something. What happened to the parrot?
El Pico espresso in the coffeemaker is a morning must, followed by a day-long binge of water to hydrate in preparation for the evening bourbonage.
Currently enjoying a Saranac Octoberfest lager with some White Castle burgers – my reward for making it through a trip to Sam’s without hurting any of the 80 people who were lane-blockers.
Let me think about that fluid line up for this weekend………How about……Crown Royal for an early morning jolt folowed by Crown Royal for lunch, then Crown Royal for dinner continueing thru-out the evening until I pass out. Sunday more of the same and if I am up to it I will be mowing the grass for the (hopefully) final time in 2008
This morning: Dunkin’ Donuts coffee
This afternoon: Turkey Hill Diet Green Tea
This evening: Magic Hat Hocus Pocus
Tomorrow (bridal shower – I’m the hostess): Polka Dot Riesling (several glasses…I suffer from R.S.S.D. – Retarded in Social Situations Disease)
Last night was crappy keg bud light X2, 2 margaritas, and 2 screwdrivers all for free at the manager’s reception in Oklahomo City, 3 – 33 oz Boulevard Wheat beers for 13.50 because Tits McGee gave me the hookup also in Oklahomo City.
So far today it’s been a Leiny Red at ORD, a Miller Light at ORD, and now a PBR at home and probably something better tonight at a party for birthdays.
What with the gorgeous October weather, it’s starting to feel like Whisky Season (which is what I call it since I don’t care for bourbon). Yes, it’s seasonal: summer is for Hoegaarden, gin+tonics, and Weissbier. Winter is for Scotch whisky, Imperial Stouts and barleywines. Hoppy pale ales are year-round.
Every morning needs a double shot of espresso (or three). Dunkin Donuts coffee rules, as regular coffee goes. But I’m pretty easygoing about the coffee as long as it’s a) unflavored, 2) made with clean equipment and iii) made with the correct proportions of coffee-to-water, i.e. not too weak or strong.
Apart from the Diuretic Twins I mostly drink water.
Working on a Weyerbacher Hops Infusion right now (made in Easton PA).
A certain fall-like nip in the air here in Tucson today as well, only 95 degrees as I type this. Brrr. So for the day’s fluids: 100% Columbian Dark Roast heavy on the Hazelnut Coffeemate with breakfast, Mug Root Beer with lunch, maybe some water later this afternoon to keep hydrated, then 6 to 12 Redhook ESBs for this evening’s liquid entertainment. Yummy.
I drink a half pint of Caldwells vodka for breakfast. Another half pint mid morning. A few beers with a light lunch then one quart more vodka between lunch and bed time. Been doing this for years. If I get sick in the afternoon it is usually the lunch.
Sometimes I feel like the only adult
still addicted to milk.
I bought two gallons this week
.. and we are not the Kennedy’s

Milk is an ingredient, not a beverage. Can you say “bechamel”?
I waver between Chardonnay and a good dark beer. Depends on the mood. There’s an occasional red wine in there – it’s good for the heart, you know.
So, Jeff, I bought the Saranac Oktoberfest today and it’s an A+.
Chrisy – you want bechamel? I just posted a recipe this week:
http://kwr221.blogspot.com/2008/09/greek-goodness.html
NO, it’s not a recipe blog – but this great recipe uses bechamel.
I usually start the day with a Coke Zero. Then a diet Coke at lunch and decaf Iced Tea in the evening. Water or Diet Coke after lunch depending.
Thursday I had to go to a business dinner thing so I started out with a Chopin martini on the rocks with olives. Chopin is the only mass produced Vodka made from potatoes that I’ve been able to find. And everyone knows real vodka comes from potatoes. It was tasty.
Last weekend I visited a local Hooters (a sort of family tradition) and I gotta tell ya, they make one heck of a good Bloody Mary.
Today I was planning on rebuilding my mother-in-laws front porch steps so I took some extra Diet Coke. Then I got there and started sweating and breathing hard and sweating some more.
When my wife became concerned with my how red and splotchy I looked I abandoned the Diet Coke and went with water. Sure, I still had a lunch Coke, but 4 or 5 bottles of water and I think I only took a leak once.
I’m home now and still feeling a tad parched.
Strong, hot, black (but decaf) Millstone Columbian coffee all day (3 pots already), interspersed with water, some Tropicana orange drink and topped off by one or two Natural Lights. I know, I know……..but I like it!
And I forgot the mid-day three cups of Raspberry Zinger tea!
Water, OJ, Yogi Green Tea, Goats Milk, Bass Pale Ale
Jeff shame on you! Today Octoberfest in Munich officially starts! The ONLY beer you are allowed to drink today is Lowenbrau!! (Now put on your uniform and take over the World!!) Jorge try Luksusowa 100% Polish potato vodka less than half the price of chopin and a better flavor!
I’m going to a friend’s for a BBQ tomorrow and I’ll be bringing the traditional Yuengling as well as the Lord Chesterfield Ale. I’m sure he’ll have all manner of strange and exotic beers. He always does. He’s one of those guys that constantly searches for the “perfect beer” but never seems satisfied.
When it gets good and cold out I like to sip Jack Daniel’s, Gentleman Jack to be exact.
Gretchen – It’s Sunday where I’m at. I think you said your teams are playing each other today, and it also happens to be your birthday.
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Biiiiirrrtthdaaaaaayyyy deeeeear Gretchen,
Happy Birthday to you!
ha-cha-cha-cha
I had a diet Dr. Pepper for breakfast, and another for lunch. When I got off from work, my wife met me and we walked to my church’s Oktoberfest. I had a pint of each of the following: Richbrau Oktoberfest, Blue & Gray Oktoberfest, St. George’s Lager, and Extra Billy’s ( a local bbq pit that brews their own beer as well) Pilsner. I have no idea what tomorrow may bring.
Yeah, only Lowenbrau. Oh, wait, I can’t find that anywhere. So it’s actually Labatt’s. Well, it *starts* with an “L”, at least
jimbritton- that is great info! I’ve been trying to find “sugar” coke for a while. maybe the stores in lakewood would have it too? (on Clifton Ave toward 88) Is the 7-11 on rte 9 in FR?
Thanks!
Why thank you, Jason. Yes it is my birthday today. Won’t be altering the drinking by much, I’m afraid. Maybe an extra green tea, WOO CRAZY! ;o)
Diane – I’ve bought them at Kroger in the “Mexican” isle. I don’t know if there’s a Kroger near you?
Gretchen – Green tea? Whatever blows your hair back, I guess. Maybe you should think up something great to eat instead. Maybe steak or lobsta! Happy Birthday!
Well the extra green tea would be at the sushi place I’m going to tonight. Love sushi. Love lobstah too, though crab legs are the best!
Gretchen- Happy Birthday!! have a nice sushi…
Jason- Thanks for the tip. No Kroger’s by me, but there are some Mexican markets not too far. I’ll try JB’s 7-11.
And by the way, I’ve tried “health food store” cola (name rhymes with bones) and it was horrible!! So I’ll be glad to find the coke!
Most Coke is made using corn syrup. During some of the Jewish holy days, there are dietary restrictions, and the consumption of grain is forbidden. During this period of time, Coke makes its product from sugar. It’s only available for a limited time, and you’ll probably have to ask for it. Don’t know which holiday, maybe Yom Kippur. I’m not Jewish, but I think it’s the one around Easter.
Thanks Diane. I assume you meant Jones cola. Their root beer made with pure cane sugar is quite good. They also have a cola made with the cane sugar, but it’s still not as good as Coke, in my humble opinion.
Yesterday: Water, Diet Coke, and a few too many Michelob Ultra Lights.
Today: Dandelion tea. Water. Diet Coke. Mad hangover, nothing tastes quite right.
Mmm, I could really go for a Jones soda!
greg- yes, i’ve looked for it. supposedly it has a yellow cap instead of a red one. no luck as yet.
Yes, Gretchen, that;’s the stuff. I haven’t tried the root beer, but the “cane cola” was pure swill. Bleeaahhhch.
Ahh, well. I only wish that I liked water the way I like coke.
Water and plenty of it. However, I did pick up a six pack of a root beer that I’m totally addicted to now.
If you haven’t tried it, Thomas Kemper Root Beer is the best stuff (if you can get it). You’ll tell Jones to go to shits. I hoard those bastards, and get FRANTIC if one is missing.
Walgreen’s has a line of drinks that’s made with cane sugar. I forget what the brand is called but it clearly says, “no corn syrup” on the bottle.
This may sound blasphemous, but I honestly can’t tell much of a difference between corn syrup and cane sugar sweetened drinks. And that’s the troof.
Happy belated Birthday to you Gretchen!
My day starts out with a 16 ounce cup of bilge water coffee. Then its water for the rest of the day. In the evening, I relax with a couple bottles of Fosters or Fullers ESB. Depends on which side of the British Isles I lean toward. An occassional southern (Lipton not that Tetly crap) sweet tea usually makes it in for dinner, ocassionally ya hear.
Pagan/Jorge – dump that bilge water vodka get some real vodka – Absolute, Nuf Said!
@ Daniel Likes to Dance! – You better get all the OJ you can cause he’s gettn’ ready to go jail for a very long time.
Fluids for the day include Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale……… Thats it, wouldn’t want to dilute the day !
LIke Tom T. Hall, I like beer. I followed the link above to Yuengling’s web site, and was surprised to discover that you now have to be 21 or older to read about beer. Do they deny its existence to those younger than 21? Is anyone actually stupid enough to believe that people under 21 are unaware of beer?
Do you have to be 21 to listen to drinking songs, too?
I’m sick of puritans and the idiots who let them run society.
Hi, Diane.
The 7-11 is on Route 9 in Forked River.
I, too have heard of the yellow cap Kosher Coke, but I have yet to buy one. I’m told that it is a seasonal item, very popular and quickly sells out.

Does anybody remember JOLT cola?
Glass bottles with a graphic depicting a yellow lightning bolt striking through the O of JOLT.
It used to be marketed with the slogan “All the sugar and twice the caffine”.
You would feel the enamel being stripped off your teeth when you drank it.
It kept me awake through many a midnight shift, though.
Coffee for breakfast, wine with lunch, beer, more beer, and a Captain Morgan and diet Dr. Pepper for a night cap. And watching the Bears blow it. That was my weekend in a nutshell.
And Happy Belated B-day, Gretchen!
jim britton – They still sell Jolt Cola. But now it’s in these tall cannister type things.

Holy crap – I missed a weekend update! Oh well, better late than never.
3 cups of extra strong Peet’s coffee for me in the morning then it’s water, water, water. I will take a little nip of Laphroig Single Malt once in a while and maybe a Campari or a Frenet Branca now and again, but I used to party like a rock star and my to keep my liver from looking like a charcoal briquette, I needed to slow down a little.
Happy Monday, Surfers!
and Happy Belated Birthday, Gretchen!
Dos Equis, and 8 o’clock coffee. Picked up the coffee on my vacation in NY last week. I had been drinking “the golden elixir” for three weeks straight, but had to leave my three remaining bottles in the fridge at my mother in law’s house in NY when I returned to Alaska.
Espresso and more espresso ….
weekend ……………..sloshing ‘guiness’
I was in Lynchburg, VA over the weekend and was given the opportunity to have a few of pottsville’s best. The wife was so impressed she forced me to purchase a case for the home collection, yummy stuff!
We ate at the “Main Street Eatery” on Thursday night. It is absolutely one of the best places to eat, Anywhere!
Damn good wine selection as well.
What is it they say about women and coffee? I like my coffee like I like my women: cold, bitter, and free of charge. Or something like that. No wait, it’s: dark, hot, and keeps me up all night. That’s the ticket.
Lowenbrau ?? I always thought that was German for “beer that’s too nasty for Germans to drink so we export it”.
Jason-
My newest, happiest discovery- Luksusowa
http://www.luksusowa.net/whyluks.htm
Crap… I didn’t check the report over the weekend… here was my liquid intake:
Friday After Work:
1. Hydrated w/some water
2. 3 Nifaritas (www.nifas.com)
3. 4 Black and Tans
4. 1 Skyy Vodka on the rocks
Saturday:
1. All ice water
Sunday:
1. Ice Water
2. 5 Skyy Vodka on the rocks
I meant Jorge- Shit
It’s Monday
Tadpolegal – That’s okay. I also found the link useful. And I’ve decided to embrace Mondays. 1/7 of your life is composed of Mondays, ya know.
Jason
I also share your adoration for Sam Adams.
I usually drink Mich 64 or Ultra-Light. Much to my chagrin it isn’t acceptable for women to have beer bellies, or so I have heard, hence the weak brew. Oh well.
Good Afternoon Surf Reporters…………
Always coffee in the morning, ice water and /or a Pepsi with Lunch, then beer upon beer upon more beer in the evening.
Yesterday I played in a golf outing, had my first beer at about 10:00 am, and when it was all said and done after the Steeler game at 10:30 at night, I’d say I was into about a good three sixpacks……..
I’m not proud
As for Oktoberfest and Löwenbräu:
Here’s to good friends,
Tonight is kind of special.
The beer we’ll pour
must say something more, somehow.
So tonight (tonight),
Tonight,
Let it be Löwenbräu (let it be Löwenbräu).
It’s been so long.
Hey, I’m glad to see ya.
Raise your glass.
Here’s to health and happiness.
So tonight (tonight),
Let it be all the best.
Löwenbräu has been served at every Oktoberfest in Munich since 1810 and is one of only six breweries permitted to serve beer at the festival. The Löwenbräu brewery was bombed to rubble during an Allied air raid in 1945. It was later rebuilt. What a big mistake. There was a reason it was bombed. It made Miller taste better.
Thanks to all those who wished me a happy birthday. I appreciate it. ;o)
I wasn’t home much this weekend, so I missed this.
Friday – 2 Labatt Blues (in Canada, so the real stuff – still tastes like shit to me, however), 1 Vernor’s
Saturday – 1 glass of Faygo Pineapple Orange pop (have to a bottle of orange and a bottle of pineappel and mix myself), water, 1 Founders IPA
Sunday – Water, last Founders IPA
